Welcome to Bitácora.btc

The meeting point where communities and people connect with financial freedom.

What is Bitácora.btc?

Bitácora.btc is an open, collaborative space for every bitcoiner community in the region, and for those taking their first steps who want to be part of this ecosystem.

It is a living roadmap, an interactive map, and a territorial and human connection point to make nodes, projects, educational initiatives, and gathering places visible across Latin America.

Driven by Consciencia Bitcoin & LATAM Cripto Mom

Bitácora.btc is an initiative developed within Consciencia Bitcoin, a community project that started in Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay, backed by LATAM Cripto Mom — a platform dedicated to family financial education, Web3 outreach, and digital sovereignty in a simple, empathetic, and accessible way.

Our purpose is to build a solid bridge between bitcoiner philosophy and society at large, promoting a real understanding of the economic, cultural, and personal paradigm shift this movement represents.

What will you find on this interactive map?

  • Visibility and Connection: Discover which communities and nodes are active near you and across the continent.
  • Open Community: A space where ecosystem pioneers meet people and families taking their first step.
  • Self-custody and Sovereignty: Tools, information, and resources to move toward true financial freedom grounded in education.
  • Your Starting Point: Find the right place to learn, share experiences, and build networks of value.

Add your community to the Bitácora

If you lead a node, organize local meetups, or are part of a bitcoiner initiative, this is your space too. Join the Bitácora, mark your point on the map, and help more people connect with the future of finance and digital sovereignty.

FAQ

What is Bitácora.btc?
Bitácora.btc is an open collaborative space for bitcoiner communities in Latin America: an interactive map of nodes, Bitcoin-accepting merchants, events and education. It is run by Consciencia Bitcoin from Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay, with LATAM Cripto Mom.
Where do I find Bitcoin communities near me?
On the Bitácora.btc map. Allow location or search by city, merchant or community. The globe counts Latin America first; below, the worldwide BTC Map total. Zooming reveals verified merchant and community pins.
How do I add my community or shop to the map?
On the map, drop a pin, add name, description, socials and a logo. Publish the CARGA-XXXX code on your site or socials; a scraper verifies it and lights the orange star. Two public networks or a rating ≥ 4 with three votes also verify.
Is Bitácora.btc a company or an exchange?
Neither. It is a community logbook with no custody of funds. Education, a map and public Bitcoin-network data. We do not sell accounts or hold your keys.
Does Bitácora.btc clone BTC Map?
No. It is not a clone. The own overlay is the listings submitted and verified here. The other shops and communities come federated from BTC Map.
Is there a Bitcoin map for Uruguay and the rest of Latam?
Yes. Bitácora.btc started in Colonia del Sacramento and covers Latin America: Montevideo, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Santiago, Asunción, Bogotá, Mexico City and more. Consciencia Bitcoin is on the map; other shops come from BTC Map and verified submissions.

Bitcoin throughout history

Protocol, community and gatherings: what happened, who showed up, and what it meant for people who use and defend Bitcoin.

  1. 31 Oct 2008

    White Paper

Satoshi Nakamoto publishes Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System. No company, no CEO: nine pages describe peer-to-peer electronic cash with no bank in the middle. The button opens that original PDF on bitcoin.org.

For the Bitcoin world. The blueprint exists. Cypherpunk talk becomes a design anyone can audit, copy, and later run.

    Read the White Paper
  2. 3 Jan 2009

    Genesis block

The chain starts. The coinbase embeds The Times headline about a second bank bailout. The button opens block 0 on mempool.space: you will see that headline inside the coinbase transaction.

For the Bitcoin world. Bitcoin is a reply to 2008, not only software. Issuance is not a committee vote; the protest is carved into the first block.

    View the genesis block
  3. 12 Jan 2009

    First transaction

Satoshi sends 10 BTC to Hal Finney. No card network, no SWIFT: two keys and a block. The button opens that transaction on mempool.space (hash f4184f…): inputs, outputs and the confirming block.

For the Bitcoin world. Proof that P2P money works. If Hal could receive it, the rest of the network could too.

    Bitcointalk

Satoshi moves the forum from bitcoin.org to Bitcointalk. Code is debated there, the first meetups are coordinated, and the tribe’s language is born: HODL, pizza, no-KYC. The button opens the forum: historic threads, the development board and Bitcoin’s oldest public square.

For the Bitcoin world. Bitcoin is not only a repo: it is people talking. Without that forum there is no social consensus or memory of why 21 million was left untouched.

  5. 22 May 2010

    Bitcoin Pizza Day

On 18 May 2010 Laszlo Hanyecz posts on bitcointalk: he will pay 10,000 BTC for pizza. Jeremy Sturdivant (jercos) takes the deal, orders two large Papa John’s in Jacksonville and has them delivered. On 22 May Laszlo pays on-chain: the first widely known purchase of a physical good with Bitcoin. Those 10,000 coins, mined by Laszlo himself, are a fortune today; in 2010 they were tens of dollars. Every 22 May the network marks the date. The button opens PizzaDAO: the Global Pizza Party, free pizza in hundreds of cities, a chapter map and how to join.

For the Bitcoin world. Bitcoin leaves the forum and is spent. Folklore of not selling cheap is born — and so is circulating, not only holding. PizzaDAO turns the story into a worldwide street party: the same gesture, no custodian.

    Bitcoin Foundation

In September 2012 the Bitcoin Foundation launches in the U.S.: Gavin Andresen, Jon Matonis, Peter Vessenes and others. Mission: standardize, protect and promote. It pays developers, talks to regulators and runs conferences. The button opens bitcoinfoundation.org: the nonprofit’s page, its history, and the live question of whether Bitcoin needs a “face”.

For the Bitcoin world. First institutional layer. Journalists and banks finally had someone to call — and the network saw the risk of centralizing the voice of a protocol with no CEO.

    First halving

The block reward falls from 50 to 25 BTC, as written. Nobody votes for a debasement. The button opens block 210,000 on mempool.space: the first that pays 25 BTC to the miner.

For the Bitcoin world. Monetary policy is credible because it is code. Predictable scarcity becomes the core argument for saving in sats.

    Bitcoin Argentina NGO and LABITCONF

Rodolfo Andragnes and other pioneers start ONG Bitcoin Argentina (bitcoin.ar): education, public advocacy and scam prevention, nonprofit. In November 2013 LABITCONF opens in Buenos Aires — still the longest-running Bitcoin conference and Latam’s #1 gathering. The button opens labitconf.com: upcoming dates, speakers and why the region meets there.

For the Bitcoin world. Latam stops looking only at Silicon Valley. It has a home: an NGO that teaches and a conference that, since 2013, is the living room for Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking bitcoiners.

  9. 9 Jul 2016

    Second halving

Reward to 12.5 BTC. Industrial mining, the 2013 boom and crash are already history; the market is global. The button opens block 420,000 on mempool.space, the first with a 12.5 BTC subsidy.

For the Bitcoin world. Bitcoin survives a full cycle. It is no longer a niche experiment; it reads as a scarce asset.

    SegWit

Segregated Witness activates as a soft fork after the block-size war. More useful capacity, signatures set aside. The button opens BIP 141 on GitHub: the spec (witness, discount, why it is a soft fork).

For the Bitcoin world. The network can upgrade without a CEO. The chain that refused a forced split wins. Lightning and healthier fees become possible.

    Lightning mainnet

Payment channels on top of Bitcoin: instant, cheap, without handing keys to a custodian. The button opens lightning.network: what the protocol is, how a channel opens, and why it is not another coin.

For the Bitcoin world. Bitcoin is not only digital gold. You can pay for coffee in sats. Medium of exchange, not just a vault.

    Bitcoin Beach

In El Zonte, El Salvador, Mike Peterson and local leaders (including Roman Martínez) start Bitcoin Beach: the first well-documented circular economy — pupusas, surf and wages in sats, no banks. An anonymous donor seeds the fund. The button opens bitcoinbeach.com: the town, the merchant map and how the model is copied on other beaches.

For the Bitcoin world. Adoption leaves the slide deck. A town without bank accounts shows you can live on Bitcoin. Two years later that experiment helps push legal-tender law.

    Third halving

Reward to 6.25 BTC, mid-pandemic. Public companies start putting BTC on the treasury. The button opens block 630,000 on mempool.space, the first with 6.25 BTC.

For the Bitcoin world. The story shifts from internet money to corporate reserve. MicroStrategy and others legitimize institutional hodl.

    Bitcoin Conference Miami

BTC Inc stages in Miami the largest Bitcoin conference yet. Nayib Bukele appears on video and says El Salvador will send a legal-tender bill. Jack Mallers (Strike) is on stage. The button opens b.tc/conference: the conference cycle (Miami, Nashville, Vegas) that turned Bitcoin into a stadium event.

For the Bitcoin world. The community leaves the classroom and walks into Wynwood. A president uses that stage to rewrite a monetary constitution: the meetup became geopolitics.

  15. 7 Sep 2021

    El Salvador

Bitcoin becomes legal tender. First nation to place it beside the dollar. The button opens Reuters coverage of the announcement: the decree, the start date and the regional context.

For the Bitcoin world. Bitcoin enters geopolitics. Circular economies, sats tourism, and the live debate: state adoption versus individual freedom.

    Adopting Bitcoin

San Salvador hosts Adopting Bitcoin: a builders’ conference (Lightning, circularity, education) in the first legal-tender country. Run by La Crypta / the Bitcoin Beach circle. The button opens adoptingbitcoin.org: 2021–2025 editions, an implementers’ agenda, not a celebrity one.

For the Bitcoin world. Not a Miami after-party: it is the people who run nodes, teach in schools (Mi Primer Bitcoin) and get paid in sats. Latam exports a method, not only a story.

    Taproot

Schnorr, MAST, better privacy: complex contracts look like a normal payment. The button opens BIP 341 on GitHub: script path, key path, and why a Taproot spend looks like a simple signature.

For the Bitcoin world. More tools without asking permission. Later, inscriptions and new uses; immediately, a chain harder to fingerprint and censor.

    Plan ₿ Lugano

Lugano (Switzerland) launches Plan ₿: the city accepts BTC and USDT, teaches in schools and runs a high-signal European conference. The button opens planb.lugano.ch: the municipal plan, the agenda, and how a city — not a distressed state — calls itself a bitcoin city.

For the Bitcoin world. Another adoption path: not El Salvador, not an ETF. A wealthy municipality using Bitcoin as civic infrastructure. The community map gains a node in the Alps.

    Satsconf

São Paulo hosts the first Satsconf: an only-Bitcoin (not “crypto”) conference that becomes Brazil’s big gathering. Lightning, education and sovereignty in Portuguese. The button opens satsconf.com.br: São Paulo Bitcoin Week, speakers and tickets.

For the Bitcoin world. Brazil is no longer just exchange volume. It has its own bitcoiner square, in its language, beside LABITCONF. The Portuguese-speaking community gets a stadium.

    US spot ETFs

The SEC approves Bitcoin spot ETFs. Wall Street can buy the asset without touching a wallet. The button opens Gary Gensler’s official statement (10 Jan 2024): what was approved and the reminder that it is not an endorsement of the asset.

For the Bitcoin world. Huge inflows — and “not your keys, not your coins.” For bitcoiners: mass access yes, sovereignty no. Price is no longer only a crypto-exchange story.

  21. 20 Apr 2024

    Fourth halving

Reward to 3.125 BTC. The schedule toward 21 million continues; yearly issuance looks more like gold. The button opens block 840,000 on mempool.space, the first with a 3.125 BTC subsidy.

For the Bitcoin world. Miners under more pressure, hashrate that does not quit, and the mantra intact: nobody can print more. Saving in sats is measured in decades.
